Entry Requirements and Fees

Entry Requirements?:

  • All applicants must hold an?honours?degree (usually 2:2?or above) or equivalent qualification
  • Employment in an?early years setting or school which offers the?Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)?and fully supports your application
  • GCSE?passes in English, mathematics and science at grade C/4 or above. We will consider applicants who are taking the relevant?GCSEs?whilst?applying
  • We would normally expect applicants to have taken and passed the full?GCSE?course, however in some circumstances we do accept equivalent qualifications or equivalency tests. If you are unable to?enrol?for the full?GCSE?course, please contact Admissions to discuss which equivalent qualification we may accept
  • You will?also need to demonstrate fundamental skills in?English and Mathematics

Course content

We are proud to offer this postgraduate, assessment only?programme?that provides the opportunity for experienced practitioners (across 0 - 5 years)? to demonstrate how they meet?the?Teachers’ Standards (Early Years) in order to achieve?Early Years Teacher Status within three-months.?

The assessment only?pathway?is designed for graduate practitioners working in settings and schools that offer the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.?This route to Early Years Teacher Status can start at any point from September to the beginning of May and the entire process is delivered in your setting.?

You will be supported by experienced and enthusiastic tutors, in partnership with a mentor from your setting or school.

You will compile a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates how you meet the Teachers’ Standards (Early Years). By the end of the pathway, you will have shown how you are a reflective, early years teacher equipped to meet the needs of our youngest children; enhance the quality of early years education and continue your professional learning throughout your career.?

It is our mission to empower trainees, through the development of knowledge, understanding and critical reflection, to become change agents who work effectively with setting communities and beyond to enhance children’s daily experiences. Subsequently, they enable children to make good progress and improve social and academic outcomes in the short and long term.

We also offer a twelve month fully funded?Graduate Employment Based route to Early Years Teacher Status?for less experienced practitioners.?

This programme will enable you to achieve Early Years Teacher Status and work in a variety of roles leading practice within the early years sector.?

Work placements

As an Assessment Only pathway, you are expected to have substantial experience of working with children aged 0 – 5 years and to have engaged in the KS1 curricula.

There are no specific placements on the AO route however,?over the three months you may need to attend another setting if there is an identified gap in your 0-5 age range experience, knowledge and understanding.

  • You are expected to be operating at the level of the Teachers’ Standards (Early Years) across the birth to five age range from the beginning of the three-month?programme
  • We will give you full guidance on what you need to do
  • A personal tutor to provide email and telephone support
  • Observation of your practice
  • Support from your employer/setting
  • A virtual learning environment - e-learning modules, a resource bank and forums


  • Needs analysis and action plan
  • A portfolio that you build up gradually
  • Evidence bundles - a powerful source of evidence to demonstrate the impact that you have on a child’s learning over a period of time
  • Formative assessment from the setting/school mentor and your link tutor e.g. observations and mentor meetings?
  • A Final Assessment Review (FAR)?allows you to?showcase the work you have been doing in practice

The cost of the?programme?is £2700. This includes initial assessment, interim and final assessment visits by the University link tutor. There are no additional costs for?this course.
